Will secured credit cards build credit history?
Question by deedee: Will secured credit cards build credit history?

Answer by Frank
Yes, they will, if you pay on time. Don’t pay late. Don’t pay late.
And don’t think that using them more will make youre credit better. Your credit report shows the number of times you paid late, the amount you currently owe, and the maximum you ever owed on that account.
If you use the card one month and then pay it off and stick it in a drawer for 11 months, that will look exactly the same one your credit report as if you used the card every month for 12 months and never paid late. So don’t fool yourself into buying more stuff to help your credit, because it won’t make a bit of difference.

Q&A: Is Black Mastercard the Boss of all credit cards?
Question by nightfire4107: Is Black Mastercard the Boss of all credit cards?
I heard people who have a Black Mastercard is rich and is for rich people?

Answer by Brad G
You might be thinking about the Black American Express card. The card is actually metal. It’s quite heavy for a credit card. I think it has an unlimited spending limit, but I’m not exactly sure. But I am a bartender and I’ve swiped quite a few of them. Most of the people that I’ve seen that have had them were doctors and stuff, so yes usually anyone that would have one are definitely well off. Here are a few quotes from a website.
“The Black American Express credit card is actually referred to as the “Centurion Card”, and is offered by invitation only, usually to celebrities and business tycoons and the like.”
“It also costs $ 5,000 to enroll in the Centurion Card program, and supposedly you need to spend a minimum of $ 250,000 within 12 consecutive months to qualify for the program (along with a stellar credit score).”
“There are said to be about 10,000 Centurion credit cardholders worldwide, which begs the question, is an even more exclusive credit card necessary?”

Average number of credit cards in America?
Question by Apfel: Average number of credit cards in America?
What is the average number of credit cards most Americans have?
Thanks!
God Bless!
Best answer:
Answer by Barkley Hound
While most Americans carry between five and 10 credit cards, some people carry up to 50 — which could wreak havoc on your credit score.
On average, today’s consumer has a total of 13 credit obligations on record at a credit bureau. These include credit cards (such as department store charge cards, gas cards, or bank cards) and installment loans (auto loans, mortgage loans, student loans, etc.). Not included are savings and checking accounts (typically not reported to a credit bureau). Of these 13 credit obligations, 9 are likely to be credit cards and 4 are likely to be installment loans.

What is cheapest way to improve credit score if you have several cards with high balances on them?
Question by gladtobeinla: What is cheapest way to improve credit score if you have several cards with high balances on them?
If you have several cards with close to max amount used on them is there a “magic percentage” like paying 65% off or 60% off in order for the credit score bureaus to take note and give an improved credit score?
Best answer:
Answer by Todd S
Under 20% is the magic number per industry experts. So the best way to get your balances down below 20% would be to either pay them down that much (if possible), or execute a balance transfer. If you go the balance transfer route, you’ll have a high balance on one credit card as opposed to two or three or however many cards you’ve got.
The downside is opening a new credit card, which can lower your credit score temporarily. But long term, eliminating those balances will far outweigh the ding for opening a new credit card. A balance transfer credit card will probably also save you a lot of money in interest.

Q&A: Is this a secret you can do with credit cards to raise credit score?
Question by : Is this a secret you can do with credit cards to raise credit score?
They recently bought a microwave for $ 1000 on credit. They have way more than that though and when the bill came, they only paid $ 970 on purpose. I asked them why they didn’t pay it off in full and they said that they paid it with $ 30 short because there is barely any interest to that low sum of cash as opposed to only paying $ 600 where the interest would be equal to a lot more money for a sum of $ 400 as opposed to $ 30.
They said that “We just left $ 30 for the them to play around with and because we pay a little amount of interest on purpose, it makes them happy and they raise the credit score.”
So I asked what makes them so sure that that happens and they said that it’s experience after working with credit cards for 30+ years.

Answer by Reena
They are wrong…. the credit card company has no influence over the credit bureaus and the credit scores.
So, leaving $ 30 on the card to give the credit card company a morsel of interest does not do anything towards their credit score.
What matters is that all payments are made on time, that not too much of the credit line is used in a billing cycle and that they (your parents) have a lot of “unused” credit versus maxed out cards and of course that they had these credit cards for a long time.
But you won’t be able to convince them. They have 30 years of “experience” and that is how they see it.
